Day in the Data: Internship Insights

What a typical working day would look like?

Hello everyone! Today, I’m excited to take you behind the scenes and show you what a typical day looks like for me as a communication intern at HEINEKEN. If you’ve ever wondered how data becomes digestible or how we communicate complex information within a global company, you’re in the right place. I hope you enjoy my story!

Morning World!

My day starts with the buzz of my alarm and the usual rush to get ready. By 9 AM, I’m at my desk in the head office next to Heineken Experience. Yeah! My office is next to the museum! Coffee in hand, I am ready to dive into the world of data.

The first task? Check my emails for any urgent updates or requests from the team. It’s like solving the first puzzle of the day—deciding which data story needs the most attention.

By mid-morning, I’m deep into creating a storyboard for our next educational video. The goal is to make the complex data digestible and engaging. I spend a couple of hours analysing trends and translating them into key points that anyone in the company can understand—no data science degree required!

Lunch…

Hungry but lucky, Thursday is the seafood day😍! I get a plate of Salmon for the price of 5 euros! Yummy!

The one-hour lunchtime is my chance to step away from the screen and connect with other interns and colleagues. We share a laugh, exchange stories about our projects, and sometimes, I get the best advice over the meal!

In the afternoon?

Post-lunch is all about collaboration. I meet with some other teams (sorry I cannot say it specifically) to align our data insights with their current campaigns. It’s a game of back-and-forth, ensuring the narrative is on brand and the data points are accurate. These sessions are super helpful—they show me how data supports decisions across different parts of the company.

As the day winds down, I review the video script one last time, make adjustments, and send it off for feedback. Before I log off, I set up my to-do list for tomorrow. It’s all about staying organized and being proactive.

After-work Drink!

Today is Thursday! You know what? As a beer company, we have afterwork drinks on the ground floor each Thursday, where we can get free beers!!! (Tell you a secret: the drinking was originally scheduled on Friday. It was moved to Thursday because there are too few people coming to office on Friday. Shhhh! 🤪) I would grab a bottle of Amstel (my favourite!) and start socialising with my colleagues!

Insights Gained

So… What have I learned from all this? The right data, presented in the right way, can influence major decisions and drive a business forward. And more importantly, staying curious, asking questions, and engaging with colleagues are the keys to making the most of any internship.

Hopefully, it would be helpful for you when you are looking for an internship! Byes~
