As I wake up the morning of the 5th, I feel slightly nervous. Event planning is fun. Especially influencer events. You get to be creative and make a certain vision come to life, which sounds like a dream to a 22-year Gen Z marketing intern.
However, there is a first time for everything, and other than my Sweet 16 and my goodbye party, I had never organized an event before. I felt pressure to perform well and to pull this off.
The event I coordinated revolved around Sinclair’s Preime DermaFacial device, which is an advanced facial device that uses five different technologies to target and treat all layers of the skin. It’s a one-stop-shop treatment and when you get regular facials with this device, you barely need other treatments. Your face will be glowing constantly. To create a theme around this event, we made up the slogan; “Glow on the Run”, highlighting that a true glow comes from both the inside and the outside. Meaning that aside from getting a facial during the event, there will be activities that provide influencers with that inner glow. For this specific event, our CEO suggested one of her good friends, who offers breathwork experiences to host a session for the influencers.
Not entirely unimportant to mention; the color of Sinclair’s logo is purple, so naturally all the branding we do is purple, purple and purple. A couple of days before the event, a bulk order of purple yoga mats arrived at the office, together with purple LED lights, purple flowers and purple balloons. Everyday leading up to the occasion, I go over all the supplies we have bought, try to put together the event in my head and imagine if it will look just as cute as in my vision.
Of course, it is my first event, and as I am setting up in the morning, I realize there are a couple of things I forgot to order. The breathwork session is a very spiritual experience, and candles all over the office would just make it look that much more beautiful. Moreover, I have a bulk order of about 25 blankets that need to be presented nicely. Luckily, I remembered I work in New York City, so I started walking ten blocks down from my office to the nearest Michaels’ store to get my candles. I walk fifteen blocks back up to the nearest Target for cute baskets to put the blankets in. A little side note; I was wearing heels, because I was hosting an influencer event, and had to look cute. As I run up and down 6th Avenue in my heels, I start laughing to myself: Isn’t this exactly the Carrie Bradshaw life I envisioned when applying for this internship in New York?
