More than an Internship; My TSH Journey

My journey in The Student Hotel, rebranded as The Social Hub and always known as TSH, began together with my first experience living abroad. TSH is a hybrid hotel which encompasses student accommodation, coworking spaces, restaurant, gym and everything you might need in an innovative creative designed hotel. My journey at TSH spans over almost three years, covering my first friends in a new city, my first ever internship (sales), a year as a community host, and my recent role as communications intern. It comes as no surprise that this company holds a significant place in my heart, having accompanied me through crucial steps in my life. More than a professional experience, it’s been a transformative learning adventure that has significantly shaped my understanding of the corporate world. In this blog post, I want to share the invaluable lessons I’ve gained and the insights that have defined my career path.

Practical Wisdom: Skills and knowledge

By working on several departments, I improved my communication skills, time management and could apply many of the theories I learned in my Communication Science bachelors in practice. In addition to practical skills relevant for my career, through the daily usage of systems as Monday, Zendesk, Word, Teams and Excel. This not only help me grow in a professional context, but also opened my mind through connections with people of various backgrounds and stages of life. I have recognized all the company’s values within its’ employees and this similarities brought us together.

A passion for people; My career path

My initial sales internship showed me the importance of effective communication within a corporate environment. Witnessing dissatisfaction due to a lack of communication inspired my transition into the corporate communication track. Followed by my current internship which made me certain of my love for working with people and ensuring their voices are not only heard but acted upon. The critical need for platforms that amplify the voices of both guests and employees, is a persistent challenge within the company. Yet, their endless pursuit of improvement and excellence still fuels the company’s growth. This experience strengthened my desire to establish environments where every employee feels heard and valued, creating a optimal workplace. I believe a company strives when the people believe in its goals and culture and that’s what I want to work with.

Modern workplace; From laid-back to essential

The Social Hub is not like any other company, it provides a relaxed ambiance with ping pong tables, a bed in the middle of the office, a place where breaks are encouraged to prevent burnout and your well-being comes first. In this laid-back environment, I’ve learned how important staff engagement and fulfillment are to the success of a company. I believe in creating an atmosphere where people find meaning in their work; a standard 9 to 5 schedule can be flexible as long as the work gets done well and employee well-being remains a priority. Regardless of your preference for a more laid-back work environment or your want to learn in a stress-free setting, this chance is a worthwhile and enriching experience.

As my internship comes to an end, I carry not only technical skills but a deeper understanding of  organizational dynamics and learn more about myself and what I want to dedicate my life to. This journey showed me that internships don’t always turn out the way you expect it. TSH has been more than simply a workplace; it was a classroom where each obstacle brought a lesson and each accomplishment sustained my personal growth.
