It’s been my fourth month at Versuni and my ride has been full of learning, and personal growth. Let’s rewind a bit to how I landed this role as a Product Marketing Intern at Versuni. With a huge interest in Marketing but uncertain about which specific sector in marketing to explore, I cast a wide nest into the open positions in Communication and Marketing. It was not an easy journey given my limited working experiences. After endless applications, and at times, loads of rejection and silence, I got this interview with a few others. However, I was 10 minutes late as the internet decided to crash right before this particular interview. Though trying my best to finish the interview, I thought this chance might slip away knowing that being late as the first impression was never an ideal one. Against all the odds, there it was an official entry ticket to my corporate life marked by a call with my manager a few days later after the interview.
The beginning is indeed challenging with everything being so new. There were times that I found myself struggling to crack the code of unspoken rules in the world of corporate. Fast forward to four months later, what I’ve learned from the position is invaluable. My role entails managing effective communication with markets, consumer research, competitors benchmarking and developing assets such as messaging for products, and toolkits for new launches. It was a bit of everything, expanding from the business to the commercial side, which I particularly enjoyed. Moreover, Versuni has strong support for interns, regular check-ins with managers for feedback and tracking progress, and various training programs for learning. Beyond that, the managers are supportive and approachable, which makes asking the “stupid” question has never been that easy.
Besides business-centric conversations, the atmosphere has been filled with an extra personal touch with discussions about MBTI, horoscopes, etc. This fosters more fun and adds genuine connection among individuals beyond the professional confines. One of the most memorable where I got the chance to participate in and help out with the company’s event called Accelerate. It is where market leaders from all around the globe gather in Amsterdam to join introductions to new launches, the company’s portfolio and roadmaps. It allowed me to work with different teams from design to agency, and coordinate with other interns for the preparation. Being able to engage in different activities has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone.
Few months left, and my journey to Versuni will draw to an end. I’m excited for what has yet to come. I hope my shared experience will be helpful to those who are looking for an internship or plan to do so!
