An average day for me started with getting ready, getting breakfast and taking the 09:34 train from Amsterdam to Rotterdam where WORM is located. WORM’s dress code normally leaned on the extremely casual side of business casual, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It allowed me to be comfortable both in my office and in the office. After the train ride, a tram was then taken to where I would walk from the stop to WORM headquarters around 11:00.
Then I would normally grab myself a drink and go to our shared office space. WORM prides itself on community so it came as no shock when I discovered that we have an open planned office. There I would greet my colleagues and go to the desk above (yes, above) my direct supervisor. Then meetings, no matter how long I’d spent working there, the sheer amount of meetings would always surprise. The first meeting of the day would be between my supervisor and I, we would go over everything that I needed to for the coming days. After that meeting, I would either get started on my work, join another meeting either with one of our collaborators or the PR and Communication division of WORM.
If I was to get started on my work it normally consisted of creating social media posts for example:
Or editing, photographing and even some light filmmaking, for the various social media posts I would then upload to our Instagram and Facebook. WORM Pirate Bay allowed me to hone my skills in different creative areas, even going as far as to offer me my own radio show through WORM radio. Otherwise, if where I was needed, consisted of more meetings, my supervisor and I would discuss plans with various people and/or organisations WORM Pirate Bay was in collaboration with and how they wanted to move forward in the future.
Afterwards, lunch/dinner around 16:00-17:30 depending on how long my meetings and/or my work took, I’d normally have something small in the interim but WORM was adjoined to a bar that made food that I took full advantage of.
Finally, around 18:00-18:30 I would usually make my way back to Amsterdam but on Wednesdays we usually had an event taking place which started the second part of my internship, where I would be entrusted to ‘cover’ these events. Covering consisted of taking pictures, asking questions and taking notes about what happened at an event to write about it for the WORM website later. This was tiring but extremely enjoyable work as I was normally invited to participate in these events. On Wednesdays, I would go back to Amsterdam around 22:00 – 23:00. Tired but satisfied with a good day’s work.
My time at WORM Pirate Bay taught me so many invaluable things about myself that I never knew. I came to understand not only the corporate world but also was able to explore my personal and creative interests, meshing them harmoniously with my internship. My days at WORM fill me with excitement for what comes next from my degree and the working world.
