Interning in a fast-growing multi-media production company in Amsterdam.

Hello there ! My name is Maximilien Cohen and I am doing this internship as a second-year bachelor student in Communication sciences at UvA. From April to June 2023, I had the opportunity to be an intern for the multi-media production company Flip The Egg Productions.

Flip The Egg is a creative company based in Amsterdam that is specialised in media production such as video-clips, advertising videos, photography, live-streams, podcasts, documentaries and much more !

As an intern, I was part of the social media and marketing department. Nevertheless, my role over the months extended and I had the opportunity to handle new tasks such as head-hunting new clients for the company, being a member of the team on the field meaning that I attended all of the shootings. What I loved the most was the experience in general. Every day I was happy to come to the office and learn. Moreover, the diversity of content all the more as the diversity of the clients made each days special. For instance, one day I was contacting and meeting people from the music industry, the other day I was present and helping filming advertising clips for a fashion company.

On a daily basis, I created social media posts that helped us to gain more attention and recognition from the creative scene in Amsterdam. Still, my role was more. Like I mentioned, I was always present on the shootings to help filming or to create content for our social media. I also helped the company to generate new creative ideas, I supported the creative team and project manager with assignments and projects for the clients we worked with. Moreover I also head-hunted for potential new clients, trying to improve our network by attending multiple events or contacting people on LinkedIn. My role was mainly to inform and propose the services of the company.

During my time as an Intern, I worked very closely with my colleagues which was very helpful. Indeed, working as a group and not doing everything individually helped to generate strong ideas and led a good cohesion between the team members. Indeed, the company has an open culture which facilitated my integration. From day One, I felt like a true member. Although I was the first intern that ever joined the company I was not treated in a different manner. Therefore, it was a great environment to work in.

The diversity of the tasks and the open environment motivated me to do more and to be involved as much as possible. Consequently, I was more than happy to stay late at the office or to finish my day around 6 or 7pm. I did not consider this internship as a burden or an annoying task to do in order to validate my internship. It helped me to discover a new world and a new way of working. Every task or assignment was a new way to learn something.

Regarding my research project, the team was also helpful. They let me choose my research question, my methodology and basically all of the research process. Still, they gave me feedbacks, helped me to go into the right direction and were always present when I had questions.

This internship experience motivated me to stay at the company and to help them grow and develop. I have now an in depth experience and knowledge of the media industry. I really like learning and being a scholar, nevertheless I feel that I learned so much in three months that `I strongly recommend other students to do multiple internships in order to have a better understanding of what they want to do in the future !
