Are you, as a student or recent graduate, confused about you future and scared of choosing the wrong career path? Are you considering doing an internship to clear your mind and gain some experience?
Don’t worry, many of us are on the same boat!
Starting with an internship might be exactly what you need, and, for this reason, I would like to share my personal experience with you all! Especially if you’ve ever wondered about what it is like to do a marketing internship in a relatively small and new company, keep reading, this post might be exactly what you need.
I recently completed my internship in influencer marketing at Lykon, a personalized nutrition and health company. I completed this internship for my Communication Science Bachelor’s program and, I have to admit, it was not easy to find. After a stressful application period, I obtained this position and spontaneously decided to move to Berlin, a completely new city for me. I can now say that I am grateful I took the chance as this was a very great opportunity for my personal and professional growth that I will never regret.
At Lykon I was working full-time, every day was quite repetitive but time flew by as I was in a very pleasant environment. My job was consisting of finding influencers on social media that would be willing to start a collaboration with the company. I had to negotiate and close deals with them, as well as keep track of their performances once the partnership was established. The whole process was more complex than it sounds and there was a lot going on as things were not always going as expected. Since I was totally unexperienced before this internship, everything was a learning experience for me and I got a grasp of how companies deal with such situations.
Moreover, I was lucky enough to be part of an amazing young and international team, where I had the chance to meet amazing people from all over the world. I will be forever grateful for this, as I could expand my professional network and I can also say that I found new friends. Every day was fun with them, enjoying lunch breaks together, sharing experiences, or simply helping each other during working time. Going to the office every day, instead of working remotely, gave me the opportunity to get to know all of these people and form deeper connections with them, as well as learn something meaningful from each of them.
It was a great learning experience that I surely will not forget. Thus, if you are unsure about which career path to take and would like to start off with an internship, I recommend you do so! It will help you gain some practical knowledge and clear your mind about whether you see yourself doing that kind of job in the long run. Whenever you find one, take the opportunity and you will not regret it!
