E-commerce advice from a digital marketing intern within a global hotel brand

When I first joined Sircle Collection, I did not have any expectations except an interest in digital marketing, but the company’s functionality and prospects exceeded any expectations I would have had. With this being my first internship and job in the professional field, I am thrilled to have learned many valuable lessons.

At Sircle Collection, branding is everything! And especially in the marketing department, we need to translate everything we do into the context of brand image. When studying corporate branding and content marketing in university, I did not realize how crucial the aspect of communicating a brand is. Expressing a brand consist of telling the same story and message starting with the style of the hotel interior, then, the illustration design and the copywriting on all websites, and lastly, every online platform such as social media and booking channels needs to be up to date. The satisfaction of customers’ journeys online and offline are both the key to success. Even the smallest detail such as the font of texts, the color of the images, and the correct translation for copies in different languages are fundamental for building a strong and unique brand. With me being responsible for all the digital assets of the company such as websites, socials, and online communication channels; it is important to have our brand value conveyed properly with every property on the internet.

Having to manage and learn all the digital platforms, another thing that inspired me is how meaningful data is for a growing company like ours to make improvements and progress. I have already acquired knowledge about how to perform data analysis and how data is used and collected everywhere. But with this internship, I got a peak at how online data are tracked and evaluated. The current trend in marketing has become data-oriented, which is why I need to interpret multiple sources of data daily. Data such as review, acquisition, click, conversion, audience, demand, and many more are factors that demonstrate the success of campaigns or changes are all collected. Only by carefully observing these loads of data, can the next decisions be made. However, how, and where did we manage to get all this data? Well, website URL tracking and analytical software collect all users’ activities. Every interaction with the company’s online platforms such as social media and websites is recorded.
