A day in the life

Today was a typical day at the Scotch & Soda office, filled with excitement, energy, and creativity. As the social media intern, I had a lot on my plate, but I was excited to tackle the day.

The day began with my commute from home to the office in the beautiful city centre of Amsterdam. I grabbed a quick coffee and granola bar before our weekly Tuesday team meeting. We usually come into the office on Tuesdays and Fridays and work remotely the rest of the week. Today we discussed our goals for the week and brainstormed new ideas for our social media platforms. We usually are given an idea or a theme by the manager in the meeting last Tuesday and gather our ideas on that throughout the week.

We talked about the upcoming spring season collection and how we could create content that would resonate with our audience. Especially with Mother’s Day on the calendar during the launch week, we were coming up with ideas to work on both occasions together. It was a little intimidating but very inspiring to hear everyone’s ideas but was eager to hear their thoughts on mine.

After the meeting we start our day, one of my main tasks for Tuesday is to analyse global Instagram content for our company newsletter. I spent a sizeable part of my day browsing through our tagged posts and selecting content that I thought would look great in our newsletter to share with other offices and clients. I coordinated with the PR team to ensure that everything was in order and that we were ready to move to the next checklist item.

I spent some time downloading campaign photos from the content bank and sharing them with the manager to plan our global IG content for the coming weeks. I had to make sure that the assets were of high quality and that the correct products were tagged before sending the selected posts along to the copywriting team. I also had to then plan the kid’s IG, which I have more creative control over, based on the kids’ content bank and upcoming events.

In the afternoon, we all have a light lunch and today I attended a meeting with the E-commerce team to discuss a new campaign we were launching and its availability on our websites and social media storefronts. The campaign is designed around the Sakura cherry blossoms and has floral elements in all the clothing items. We talked about our target audience and how we could create content which implemented those themes as well as related to Amsterdam, the home of Scotch & Soda. I was excited to be a part of this meeting and to contribute my ideas to this because it gave me an opportunity to network with people outside my immediate team.

Later in the day, I worked on a visual storyboard of organic user images wearing Scotch & Soda which we repost on our story. I usually gather 6-8 images that are aesthetically similar to each other as well as reflect the vibe of our brand. Once this is ready, I get my supervisors’ approval and send this to the creative services team who edit the sizing and watermarking of these photos.

Overall, it was a busy but productive day at the office. As much as I love working here with the new opportunities to learn every day, I am ready to go home and work on some of my school assignments and create some time for myself to refresh. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
