My Internship at Colegio Internacional Costa Adeje.
Hello! This is Raúl, and I will briefly explain you my experience as an intern for Colegio Internacional Costa Adeje. I interned at the school where I did primary, secondary, and high school for 4 moths in the Communication, Sales and, most importantly, Marketing department, which consisted of my supervisor and me.
My first day interning was very hectic, as the school was transformed into a movie set, because they were shooting a Mexican Drama series that took place in a school. I was very impressed with the coordination a series recording implies, and how many people it employs. Still, I had to help the production team move around the school buildings, as I knew it perfectly from all my years in it.
After the recording was done, it only took 2 days, I was able to start my functions, which were to advise on the marketing tactics employed for the newest brand extension of the school: Costa Adeje Academy, which is an English Academy that prepares students to take the Cambridge Assessment English Exams for Certificates.
For a month, my supervisor, boss, and I had to work with the agency that was in charge of developing and conducting the digital marketing campaign for Costa Adeje Academy. We had to write copies for ads and the website, translate them, approve their looks, and “touch and feel”. Although the website was very high quality, we ran into some misunderstandings with the ads and Costa Adeje Academy’s social media profiles, as the agency had unnecessarily rushed to create them.
I must say that I did not only perform activities restricted to my job title, I also conducted multiple surveys to students and teachers about the possibility of implementing the IB system at the school, which allowed me to expand into the practicality of using surveys to determine whether something can be done.
Moreover, I was able to provide school counseling to two students of last year of high school that wanted to study in a Dutch university and start living in the Netherlands, which is some counseling that I would have loved for it to have been given to me 3 years ago, but that I was so eager to provide for other students.
Lastly, I was also in charge of the Christmas festivities solidarity market, in which students bring toys, books, and games in good conditions which they no longer use so they can be sold, and the money to be destined to a local NGO.
Some days I had to cope with longer work shifts because I had important meetings to attend and tasks that needed to be done ASAP, but I would say that every result of everything that I gave the school during my internship was very fruitful and in-sighting. I bonded deeply with a lot of colleagues and, furthermore, my boss provided me with the opportunity of attending the annual congress of Educational Marketing in Valencia. I am very glad about my first serious job, and I would recommend anybody to return to their schools to work there!
