HR/Fashion/Communication/Science – what?

I feel like I am reading a very interesting book that is called “My life”. I started exploring what I want to do and these 6 month at Gauge81 completed quite a fascinating chapter and I am so excited to see what the next plot twist is.

Half of the summer between my 2nd and 3rd year I have spent in a beautiful office with beautiful people at Gauge81. Gauge81 creates very feminine and inspirational pieces of clothing; the founder and the designers have a unique vision of style and aesthetics. Originally, I was not planning to do an internship in fashion and was only focusing on looking for the HR roles. Yet, I was following Gauge81 on social media for visual inspiration and I was scrolling Farfetch and looking at their amazing dresses. Once I saw the HR intern position opening, I applied without any doubt. I had so much curiosity to see what is going on behind the scenes.

Luckily, I got the position and reflecting on the six months at Gauge81, I understand that it was quite a unique, sometimes hectic experience. I made some amazing friends, realised how to properly build the communication in a corporate environment, how important the personal branding is and in general, what is it like to have a full-time position when you have wake up every day, come to work and do you job. I am thankful for getting to see what I like about HR and Fashion and what I don’t like. I loved recruitment and hated office management. I felt happy when I could be helpful when my fellow interns were coming to me and not my manger as they trusted me with their personal matters, and I had to force myself to organise all the data in Excel.

After Communication Science the most logical path is Marketing and Public Relations and Human Resources do not really flow smoothly from the knowledge I obtained during my curriculum. Yet, on the second year of my bachelor I decided to gain some hands-on experience what its like to be in the Human Resources department. I must say that viewing HR practices from the point of view of all the communication theories is quite a fascinating experience. For example, I unconsciously assess if certain internal communication or persuasion will be successful or not. I loved using tricks I learned when reading about heuristics/ELM to get the desirable answer. I used in the most unexpected situations like solving prospect hires concern about accepting the offer.

Let’s see what’s next and thank you, Gauge81!
