Hey there! I am Jahnavi Mishra, a third-year Communication Science Bachelor’s student at UvA. I spent the last three months interning at Richmond Global Sciences as a Marketing and Sales intern. Aside from the fact that I got to hone my communication and research skills, I also received the best exposure in the field of sustainability. So, if making a positive change for the future of our planet is what you want…RGS is the place to be.
Richmond Global Sciences is based in London and is a startup from 2019 including a small team of great minds. Their product RIFT is the 1st in the world to produce a report on the ESG impact of a product in definable financial terms. To work for promoting such an invention, greatly added to my sense of value as I was contributing a little to solving a global issue and forming a sustainable world.
Following my internship online, I had many doubts regarding working under pressure and time constraints, socializing professionally, and adapting to the values, work environment, and work tools. However, from my very 1st day at RGS, I felt a strong sense of belonging. I was introduced personally to everyone and attended team activities and work calls that strengthened my confidence inside the company very early on. I was given a lot of independence to produce and submit my work in my own time, which resulted in an increased sense of responsibility for me. I was introduced to their systems and tools very quickly and therefore found it incredibly easy to intermingle. Working in a small team not only proved to be a great way of forming personal connections but it also meant my work and opinion were used and heard, which was ultimately very fulfilling and increased my confidence in my work.
My internship responsibilities included writing LinkedIn blog posts and making accompanying visuals, working on marketing materials made for clients (presentations, flyers, etc), and researching client contacts as well as different platforms to market their product (RIFT).
During my internship, I got to work very closely with a lot of my colleagues in different departments and learn about their functionalities as well. Since I was present in most meetings and conducted some as well, it was very easy to find my voice within the firm and develop my professional network. This also meant a great feeling of involvement and worth in myself which in turn definitely served as motivation to produce great quality work.
Even though my internship was online, working for RGS gave me exactly the kind of exposure I needed in the corporate world, and it also fueled my passion for the field of sustainability. I learned how to apply communication theories in practice and develop marketing ideas for real-life applications. Starting your career, working with experienced employees, and adapting to a work environment can be hard, therefore my internship at RGS proved to be very educational and a great step into the business world.
