Hello fellow marketing enthusiasts!
My name is Abigail Kamber and I am a third year Communication Science student at the UvA. I am writing to share my experience as an intern at the social media marketing agency Balans Social. At Balans Social, we work with a diverse range of clients to help them maximize their social media strategy on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. Throughout my six months as a marketing intern, I was able to learn the ins and outs of social media marketing and develop new skills in content creation, research, and reporting. My favorite project to work on was a social media strategy for a potential new client, Punch Bowl Social. Punch Bowl Social is a restaurant chain with 15 locations across the United States. They not only serve food but also offer all types of fun activities such as bowling, karaoke, and arcade games.
Along with my two colleagues, we created a detailed plan for how we would help Punch Bowl Social to engage their target audience, grow their social media following, and create a stronger brand presence. We first completed a company overview along with a target group analysis and social media goals such as increasing the number of Instagram followers and table bookings. Next, we researched relevant competitors, analyzed their social media engagement, and reported on what types of content is working best (e.g. Reels vs. Static Images). We then created an Instagram content strategy based upon our three main pillars of content (Promotional, Educational and Entertainment). We came up with ideas and example posts for each of these pillars. For example, an educational post helped to explain the different food dishes while for the entertaining posts we created funny memes about karaoke. In the last section of the strategy report we developed an influencer marketing strategy which included a plan for recruiting influencers and a list of over 50 influencers located in the different target cities who we believed would be a good fit with the Punch Bowl Social brand.
I really enjoyed getting to work on this strategy report because it incorporated so many different elements of social media marketing and pushed me to think outside the box. Punch Bowl Social ended up loving our proposal and they have since become one of our biggest clients. It was exciting to see all my hard work pay off and watch my creative ideas from the strategy become reality.
