Hi there!
My name is Alan and I’m finishing my Communication Science Bachelor’s degree at this moment. Recently I had the pleasure to be an intern at KARL LAGERFELD. It is a luxury fashion brand founded by the famous designer, past creative director of Chanel and Fendi – Karl Lagerfeld. The headquarters with most of the departments is based in Amsterdam besides the representative office with the PR team that is located in Paris.
As an intern, I was part of the creative marketing team that is responsible for the production and roll-out of the visual assets. On a daily, I assisted Global Marketing Manager with all marketing initiatives and activities related to all global campaigns, special collaborations, key brand- and product initiatives, brand materials, and all other ad-hoc divisions that are needed. I worked in the creative team within the Marketing department and I try to help them with all tasks that they are responsible for. I had to analyze the marketing activities of other fashion brands and look for the most suitable ideas for future projects.
I frequently had to work a lot with visuals that I used for the decks that were presented for the business partners and other cross-functional meetings. I also was responsible for benchmarking, competitor analysis, and any other research.
Since my team was responsible for the production of the assets, I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time on the shoots. I could learn about the managerial insights on how to coordinate the Creatives and the whole production process. Although a shooting day is very tiring because we sometimes spent whole days on set from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. it was very exciting and I could meet a lot of interesting people including stylists, creative directors, photographers, and producers. My last photoshoot was for the collaborative collection with Amber Valletta that has been out since April. The production was very challenging since many team members got tested positive for COVID so we were very understaffed. However, eventually, we managed to effectively execute the project. For me, it was an amazing experience from which I could learn a lot but also meet one of my favorite models from the 90s – Amber Valletta.
Nevertheless, I am extremely grateful that my studies allowed me to get such an amazing experience. I learned so much about marketing, creative and visual communication and interpersonal skills. However, the list is long but the most exciting part was that I could work in a very dynamic and international environment. Additionally, after the internship, I got an offer to be a full-time employee in the team that I gratefully accepted. I couldn’t be happier for this lifetime opportunity and support from my university to achieve my goals.
