Choosing your hard.

I finally know what I want my future to look like – for now.

I am approaching this journey as a blank canvas. Do not get me wrong, I had a curiosity about public relations. I did not know anything about it but enough to know that it had to do with the external aspect of an organisation. It is safe to say that there was everything for me to learn. This just seems big, bigger than any other job I’ve had. To be honest, it’s hard for me to focus, to keep up with an activity or a hobby. Some jobs I have not followed up in the past, back home where it really was not my choice. But as soon as I got to meet the office and my coworkers, it felt this time was going to be different.

A few weeks have passed working at Hooton. I understand that I do seek connectedness and strive for approval. The first few weeks I was lost, I felt like I did not understand that well what was going on, even though I had everything at my disposal to do it. I felt pressure from no other than myself to get through it and start to journal. When I started to journal about some ideas for clients, opportunities, reading industry outlets in my free time and also at the office, is when I started to feel time flew by. My role was something bigger than I ever expected to be.

It is important to think about future possibilities for the future in either that or other communication practices. My experience in a public relations agency has led me to think that there maybe is a possible future for me in that field of communications. Throughout my time there, I have encountered different industries like the creative and fashion industry more so than others. Having in-depth experience now with those industries, it became food for thought for me to investigate future career paths within them. My perspective for the future, where I see myself is to be a smart, communicative and creative professional which I see developing within the field of public relations. My goal is to explore more about the fashion and creative industries within the global communications paradigm. I have learned from each and every co-worker on how to be tenacious, courageous and strive to adopt those traits onto my professional future.

Now my goal is to apply my knowledge and act smart, choosing your hard takes practice; and a lot of introspecting – taking my journal wherever I go. I never know when I’ll need it.
