Social distancing at work

Hello everyone! 🙂

My name is Linah Ahmad, and I am currently in the last few weeks of my 5 month internship at Omnicom Public Relations Group Netherlands.

My internship experience has been both enlightening and educational, where I have had the opportunity to learn more about public relations from a practical point of view. But before I elaborate on this, I must tell you a little bit about the company itself: OPRG is a global collective, comprising of the following communication consulting firms; FleishmanHillard, Ketchum and Porter Novelli. It specializes in reputation management and creative strategy for businesses ranging from retail industry to the aviation sector in the Netherlands. Through a global reach, they offer wide variety of specialized PR strategies. I have had the pleasure of working there during the last semester of my bachelor program and develop as a communication scientist.

To be an intern at OPRG, even from a distance, is like being part of a community; where I am able to translate my theoretical basis and knowledge of communication science into a practical setting and learn more about which sector I would like to give service to in the future. My position as a communications intern during the last 5 months up till now has consisted of many exciting tasks; extending from media monitoring, helping to organize media events for clients, empirical research, to translating and structuring different types of texts.

My favorite responsibilities entail conducting empirical research for our clients, and applying my writing skills to create case articles for the website. This, in combination with working together with a great team have been the highlights of my time at OPRG. Although we were once again in the midst of a new lockdown for a number of weeks, OPRG has made it their mission to keep employees motivated and connected with one another, especially throughout the holiday season! Every Monday to start the week and Thursday we have a dial-up teams meeting available to the whole team, where everyone has the opportunity to share what they have been working on or even talk about non-work related topics that could be exciting. Working from home was definitely a challenge at times, and staying home was not always the most stimulating situation to be in; but overall I felt excited to sit behind my desk, connect with my work and enjoy the experience to the best of my ability.

If you want to learn more about OPRG and the type of work that they do, check out their website https://www.omnicomprgroup.nl/ 🙂
