From clueless in IT to marking in IT! It’s all about the DevOps approach…

From early March to the end of June 2021, I was a member of the DASA DevOps Digital Marketing team. DevOps Agile Skills Association (DASA) is an independent and open members-driven association supporting DevOps journeys around the world through training, certification, and knowledge sharing. DevOps aims for a simple, yet important goal to make IT easier, faster, and cheaper, to provide more value faster to the business/consumer/ user. They do this through the creation and implementation of comprehensive certifications, accessible worldwide.

When I first joined the company, I had no previous knowledge on the DevOps approach and its way of working- to be blunt, I was quite clueless. However, on my first week I was explained all the ins and outs of DevOps, and I learned new IT terms and operations. As someone who is curious and likes to learn new things, this was an enriching experience. Furthermore, much focus and perspective in the IT world is dominated by men. Women weren’t quite a part of the corporate image or of the company’s social media. So, during the internship I made sure to give a voice to women in IT by writing a blog, inviting a female to the podcast, and interviewing a female IT influencer for one of my blog posts.

As an intern in the Digital Marketing team, I handled a variety of daily tasks. Primarily, I helped the company’s community to grow and increase engagement within the community, whilst promoting new certification launches. I also copy edited many product releases and took the lead on taping an episode for an upcoming service, whilst using new marketing tools.

My three months spent at the company felt quite busy, because every day brought new challenges and opportunities to learn, and new skill sets to develop. Furthermore, working 90 percent of my time from home, some days did feel quite still due to the lack of a real office environment.

All in all, I am happy to have grown during my time at DASA and I feel as though I have accomplished quite a lot. Those accomplishments will stay with me for a long time. I would recommend my fellow students to get an internship at DASA DevOps!
